Just in, this Drascombe Drifter 22, ‘Lucky Drifter 007’, is a very well-presented Mark 2 example of the sturdy trailer sailer design.
Built in 2007 as hull number 7 (hence the name), she has been well maintained and comes with lifting keel plates. Drawing only 40cm with the keels up, Lucky Drifter 007 is perfectly suited to creek crawling and lifting out onto her robust double-axle road trailer to tow her to your favourite sailing destinations. She has an easy-to-raise double-masted yawl rig, with the traditional loose-footed mainsail. Control lines for all three sails come back to the helming position in the cockpit and, coupled with her tillerpilot, make this little yacht perfect for short-handed and single-handed sailing. Thanks to high coamings and a sprayhood, the sailing position is both well-protected and dry. This Drifter 22 is fitted with a powerful 9.9HP Yamaha 4-stroke outboard which sits in a well yet can be tilted up to leave the prop clear of the water to reduce drag.
The twin centre plates, located on either side of the cabin moulding, make for easy cabin entry, and with no mast compression post to get in the way, there is plenty of room to move around below deck. This MKII Drifter’s near 2m-long double berth is easily long enough for 6’+ crew and doubles as cabin seating with the infill removed. Coming complete with a galley and chemical toilet, Lucky Drifter 007 is well suited to both day-sailing and longer coastal cruises.
This Drascombe Drifter 22 is well equipped with many recent improvements:
- Double-axle road trailer with new brakes and calipers in 2024
- Coppercoat antifouling applied in 2024
- Main sail and jib in good condition – new mizzen sail 2024
- Rigging and roller-furler mechanism fitted in 2024
- Spars and woodwork – regularly varnished and in good condition
- Yamaha F9.9 4-stroke outboard, regularly serviced
- Sprayhood
- Autohelm tiller pilot
- Canvas mainsail cover new 2024
We think Lucky Drifter 007 would make an ideal cruiser for a couple or a single-handed sailor. If you’re unfamiliar with the Drascombe Drifter 22 MKII model, then have a read of the review by David Harding of Practical Boat Owner in 2021.
