Sold. Scallywag is a great example of the popular Jeanneau Sun 2000 trailer sailer – perfect for that first step up from dinghy sailing or for downsizing to a more manageable yacht.

Jeanneau describe the Sun 2000 as a 20’4” coastal monohull sailboat designed by Olivier Petit.  Drawing only 30cm with Scallywag’s easy lifting keel and rudder fully retracted she can access the shallowest of launching spots and explore hidden creeks with ease. Yet with her keel fully lowered to her full 1.6m draft and powerful easily trimmed sails she displays excellent upwind sailing charactistics. Thanks to her wide stern, she rockets off the wind too!

Scallywag is easy to handle thanks to her furling headsail and ‘stack-pack’ style mainsail lazy jacks.  Her companionway hatches can both be fully removed for easy movement in and out of the cabin. So, for the less sure footed sailor, much of the sail hoisting, reefing and trimming can be done from a protected position in the cabin. Scallywag’s enormous cockpit provides ample room for entertaining guests on board and her low transom with swimming ladder make it easy to enjoy a dip too.

Down below Scallywag has 4 berths with a 6’3” V berth in the forepeak as well as two huge single berths stretching under the cockpit seating. Thanks to a ‘Comfort Pack’ spec she has easy clean blue vinyl cushions and teak veneer woodwork, including reversible cabin floorboards. She has a handy wooden table which can be fitted in both the cabin and for entertaining in the cockpit. A large water bag supplies fresh water to the handpump in the galley sink and a camping style (untested) stove is available for cooking. Cabin lighting is fed on a 12v system.

Scallywag comes with a 4HP saildrive Mercury outboard which also trickle charges the leisure battery when in use. Scallywag comes with a good set of cruising sails and a robust Facnor genoa furler. She is equipped with a NASA Clipper speed and depth bi-data instrument.

Scallywag is in excellent condition. We understand that before purchase by her present owner she was very lightly used by her two previous owners and never raced competitively. She appears well cared for and  her original genoa was replaced in 2014. The standing rigging was replaced by the current owner in 2019. Scallywag’s braked RM trailer was fully overhauled in 2017 with new bearings, new tyres, new main rod and upgraded 2000kg dampners. The trailer has an integrated ‘hozelock’ style saltwater rinsing kit and launching is easy, thanks to plenty of guide rollers. The outboard is being serviced prior to sale.

Scallywag has been prepared for sale and she has had:

  • A full bottom scrub and new antifouling
  • A service for her Mercury 4hp outboard engine
  • Sanded external teak grabrails
  • Lines washed
  • Machine polished topsides.

Note: Most of the pictures show the boat as we we sold her and we have shown additional pictures of what has changed, namely the sanded external teak.

Scallywag is now sold. Please get in touch with us to see other great trailer sailers!
